The Game

You are a cat and have recently arrived in your new home. Now you're alone in this unfamiliar environment for the first time and set out to explore it.

Catcrawl is a collaborative role-playing game (TTRPG) in which you tell the story of this exploration. You'll use an apartment map with 24 squares for the cat to explore.

How is the cat going to interact with the environment and what is it going to discover? Play to find out!

Catcrawl has been written by Jasmin Neitzel und Andrea Rick and illustrated by Andrea Rick and 16 other people from the Plotbunny Games community (you can find further credits on this info page for the game).

The Rules

Catcrawl is a GM-less or solo TTRPG for 1-4 players and a flexible play time of about 30 minutes to 3 hours (one-shot).

Everything you need to play is this zine or PDF. No preparation or experience necessary – just start playing!

The game is based on a lovingly-detailed apartment map with 24 squares for th cat to visit and interact with. It combines hexcrawl-like mechanics with story game techniques. It also offers several lists with details and ideas for your descriptions.

The rules of Catcrawl are very simple. First you set up the framework for your game, create your cat together, and read a short intro text out loud. Then the core game begins: Players take turns playing the cat, describing the environment, and narrating the consequences of the cat's actions. You switch roles every time the cat enters a new square. The game supports you in all roles with several prompt lists. In the end, the cat finds a comfortable spot to take a nap in and falls asleep.
